Kauffman Center Teapots

Porcelain, slipcast, cone 10 or soda fire, china paint, luster

The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts building in Kansas City, MO was the source of inspiration for this series of slipcast teapots. Still under construction at the time, the structures offered a framework that was visually striking.

Various ceramic processes were used including soda firing, china painting, luster, and organic burnout. Most teapots were designed to have moving, hinged parts which were crafted individually and assembled after all firings were completed.
